Test preparation
MOT and NCT preparation
A failed test costs you the retest and another day off the road, usually over something that would have taken ten minutes to sort beforehand. We check the car first and fix what would fail.
What we check
- Brakes, discs, pads and handbrake performance.
- Tyres, tread depth and condition, including the spare where one is carried.
- All exterior lights, plus headlight aim and alignment.
- Suspension, steering, joints and bushes.
- Exhaust and emissions.
- Wipers, washers, mirrors, seatbelts and screen condition.
- Underbody and corrosion, along with anything else the tester will be looking at.
Either side of the border
Derry being where it is, plenty of the cars through the door are southern registered. We prepare cars for the NCT the same way we prepare them for the MOT. The tests differ in the detail, but the principle is identical and the faults that fail them are much the same. Tell us which test the car is going for and we will check it against that one.
What you get told
You get told what would fail, what is borderline and what is perfectly fine, along with what it costs to put right. Anything we fix is sorted before the car goes to the test centre, so it goes in with the best chance of coming straight back out again.
