Keys and security

Key coding and radio codes

Down to your last key, or lost the lot? Keys have to be matched to the car's immobiliser, and that side of things is locked down tightly enough that most garages cannot touch it.

Spare and replacement keys

A spare key is a great deal cheaper than an emergency at the side of the road with no way of starting the car. We code spare keys to your vehicle, and where every key has been lost we can programme a new one from scratch. The key is matched to the immobiliser so the car genuinely recognises it, rather than a copy that opens the doors but will not start the engine.

Why the clearance matters

Immobiliser and component protection data is restricted by the manufacturer. Getting at it needs a licensed tool and personal security clearance, which is why plenty of garages send you to the main dealer for a key. We hold both, so the work stays here and so does the price.

Radio codes and control units

Disconnect the battery on some models and the radio or infotainment unit locks itself until it sees the right code. We can retrieve the code and get the unit talking to the car again. The same applies to replacement control units, new or second hand, which have to be coded and have component protection cleared before the car will accept them.
