DSG servicing and mechatronic repair

The DSG is one of the best boxes VW Group ever built and one of the most expensive to ignore. Serviced on schedule it will run for years. Left alone, the bill climbs quickly.

Servicing to schedule

A wet-clutch DSG needs its oil and filter changed at set intervals. The fluid does the shifting as well as the lubricating, and once it degrades the box starts to hesitate and snatch. We use the correct specification fluid, change the filter with it, and log the service properly on the digital record.

When the mechatronic unit is the problem

The mechatronic unit is the hydraulic and electronic brain of the gearbox, and it is usually the culprit when a DSG starts misbehaving. The signs are hard to miss:

  • Juddering or hesitation pulling away, worst from cold.
  • Jerky or delayed shifts at low speed.
  • The box dropping into limp mode, or refusing to select a gear.
  • A gearbox warning light, or stored faults pointing at pressure or solenoid problems.

We diagnose it rather than assume it. Live data and guided tests tell us whether it is the mechatronic unit, the clutch pack or something a good deal cheaper, before anyone spends money.

Repair, replacement and coding

Depending on the fault, a mechatronic unit can be repaired or swapped for a new or second-hand one. Either way it has to be coded and adapted to your car afterwards, and that needs genuine factory software. A unit fitted without being matched to the vehicle will not work properly. We hold a full ODIS licence and the security clearance to do it here rather than sending you to a main dealer.
